Downley House

East Hampshire.
Private commission for a new country house in the South Downs.
The house, sitting in 3 acres of grounds, is 3 storeys with a total area of 6000sq feet .
Constructed in cross laminated timber (CLT) with high levels of insulation and air tightness.
The low-embodied energy of the construction, the efficient envelope, ground source heat pump and heat recovery system bring the house to Passivhaus standards.
Executed in collaboration with Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects, the project was completed in 2012 to a budget of £2.5m.
